This week the Alloy team had the pleasure of speaking with eager startup entrepreneurs about digital media and Twitter at Atlanta’s Hypepotamus Ecommerce School. Anna Ruth, Jennifer and Colleen opened up the audience’s mind to a world “Beyond Hashtags,” and touched on some Top Twitter Tips. Here’s a list of our favorites.
1. Commit
Most importantly, don’t have a Twitter account just to have one. If you decide to put yourself or your brand out there you need to commit. Your followers are going to want to see that you’re authentic, engaging and producing interesting content. If you don’t, it won’t take long for them to click that unfollow button.
2. Plan Ahead
If you’re new to Twitter, creating a content calendar allows you to strategically think out and write down your content ahead of time. This will keep you from constantly being tied to your phone and worrying about what you should be posting. These calendars can be weekly, bi-monthly, monthly or whatever works best for you.
3. Be Strategic
Believe it or not, what you post and when you post does matter. Studies show that engagement rates are actually 17% higher on the weekends and higher during the “busy hours” of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. This could change from brand to brand though. When starting out, try posting at different times and different days to see when you are getting the most engagement.
Knowing how to optimize social media strategy can take businesses to levels they never even imagined and last night’s group is on their way to being social media rockstars. Check out some of their tweets from last night!
